All About Me
Hello, my name is Alexandra Levy (but most people call me Alex) and I am the proprietor of Lavender Garden Services.
In case you don’t already know me, please allow me to tell you a little bit about myself.
I trained in horticulture at Writtle College in Chelmsford (previously known as Writtle Agricultural College) – one of the largest (and longest established!) land based colleges in the UK.
It was probably inevitable that I was going to take the horticulture route once I’d left school. For as far back as I can remember, I have always loved being outside in the garden. Even as a young child I was always helping my grandfather in his large garden. It seemed like just fun at the time but I know that I learnt a lot from him along the way.
Many years later, after my grandfather had died and his garden had been neglected for several years, it was my pleasure to “rescue” an area of it for my grandmother, clearing the overgrowth and establishing a vegetable plot. It was then that I really knew that this was how I wanted to spend my time, bringing people’s gardens to life.
Whilst I was at Writtle College I gained a National Diploma in Horticulture and was fortunate enough to have a year’s work experience on a private estate. I worked as part of the grounds team, helping to maintain the 150 acre estate at Cobham Hall in Kent, a private boarding school for girls - working through the changing seasons and putting the theory into practice.
After
leaving college it seemed only natural that I should work for
myself, starting a business that would enable me to do what I love
best – working in small gardens and bringing them to life. So that
is how Lavender Garden Services came into being, and how I found
myself doing work that I thoroughly enjoy – which, of course, makes
me happy!
